In the largest narcotic seizure of the year in Goa, Anti Narcotic Cell of Goa Police on Saturday night nabbed a Delhi-based drug supplier, dubbed as the biggest drug supplier in Goa, with six kgs of charas worth approximately Rs 18 lakh.
Sustained efforts by ANC team for over three days bore fruit with the arrest of Raj Sharma (32) resident of Mahipalpur, South-West Delhi and a native of Assam. Sharma was caught near Gandhi Circle at Bombay bus stand, Mapusa with 6.020 kgs of charas.
The contraband was seized and the accused has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
During his interrogation, the accused disclosed that he bought the consignment at Nepal border and that he was scheduled to supply to other drug peddlers, with who had forged a deal prior to his arrival. Sources disclosed that the investigating team led by ANC sub-inspector Manjunath Naik is in the process of establishing Sharma's links with the network of Goan drug suppliers and peddlers, who are expected to surface as the tourism season begins to peak in Goa.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (ANC) Umesh Gaonkar has declared a reward for the staff of ANC for their exemplary work. Including this haul, the largest in Goa this year, ANC has successfully seized a whopping total of Rs 1.48 crore worth narcotics in 2017. Major chunk of the seizures, worth over Rs 84 lakh, were effected between July and December, during the tourist season which fuels the entry of drug suppliers in the state. ANC staff has booked a total of 28 cases so far and has arrested 33 accused including 23 Indians and 10 foreign nationals. The foreign nationals include seven Nigerians, one South Korean, one British and one Israeli national.
