Tourism Dept fines organiser of unauthorised Caranzalem event

Beach warden suspended for failing to report activity

PANAJI

Two days after controversy over an international open-water swimming event being held without mandatory permissions, the Tourism Department on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the chief organiser, Kapil Arora.

The Tourist Warden posted at Caranzalem Beach has also been suspended for negligence and failing to report the unauthorised activity.

The department confirmed that no approval was granted for the International Oceanman Open Water Swimming Event, which had to be stopped midway on Sunday after objections from local fishermen.

An inquiry was launched after videos of the chaos at the venue began circulating on social media.

Officials said the swift action is meant to ensure accountability and reinforce the importance of securing permissions before hosting events.

Tourism Director Kedar Naik said monitoring at beach locations is being strengthened to prevent such unauthorised activities in future.

He urged event organisers and beach stakeholders to follow the Goa Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) Act, 2001, and other required rules before planning any event at tourist sites.

He further stated that no permission had been granted for the International Oceanman Open Water Swimming Event.

“Any event or activity held without prior approval from the Tourism Department will face strict action. Vehicles involved will be impounded, fines will be imposed, and an FIR will be lodged with the police as per law,” Naik warned.
