After first putting a hold on new project permissions in the 108 proposed Eco-Sensitive Areas (ESA), the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (Goa-SEIAA) has now decided that all mining activities ” both major and minor ” will be completely banned in these ESA villages once the final notification is issued.
In its recent meeting, the Goa-SEIAA also decided that existing mining operations within the ESA will have to be phased out within five years from the date of the final notification.
