Upset over the attack on a GoaMiles app taxi driver booked by him, a tourist from Hyderabad uploaded a video on social media, narrating his plight during the incident and appealed to the Goa government to act fast before tourists feel unsafe in Goa while using a taxi.
Prithvi Reddy uploaded a video stating that he was forced to get off the GoaMiles taxi and he chose to walk 1.5 kms to find another taxi, instead of using a taxi operated by those taxi operators involved in the incident.
“My name is Prithvi Reddy and I am a resident of Hyderabad. I was in Goa to attend a conference and I happened to book a car though GoaMiles. The driver, Sadik Shaikh, came to pick me up in his car and we left the hotel,” stated Reddy in the video.
“However outside the hotel gate, other taxi drivers stopped the car and began arguing with the driver as to why he had come to the hotel to pick me. I was already in the car and they should have let him go, but they stopped the car and started assaulting the driver while I was in the car,” Reddy
said.
Ignoring his pleas, Reddy said the other taxi operators did not let the car move and continued assaulting the driver.
“At one point, they almost tried to beat me. The driver had no option but to leave me and go away. This is what a tourist like me experienced and I am not sure what would be the situation if my family was in the
car.”
“Even though a customer was seated in the car, they were assaulting the other driver like goondas. He is a cab driver and the other guys are also cab drivers,” said a visibly upset Reddy in
the video.
“Because of the fight, I walked for over 1.5 kms for an alternative taxi, especially because I did not want to use the taxi that operated by these goondas.”
“I seriously want the Goa government to do something about this, because as a customer visiting Goa, a tourist does not feel safe at all and this is not a good thing to happen for a tourist place like Goa,” added Reddy in his video.
