Those doing business at the beaches have started packing their belongings, while few foreign tourists are seen at the beaches. Shacks and restaurants on the beaches have started pulling their shutters down.
When contacted, Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar said: “We will try to provide basic facilities to the tourists in the next tourist season including changing rooms, toilets at Morjim, Mandrem, Harmal and Tiracol-Keri beaches.”
It may be recalled that former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on December 25, 2016, laid the foundation stone to construct changing rooms and toilets at Mandrem beach. However, the construction is pending.
When contacted, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte said he will request the government to create basic facilities at the beaches in Pernem taluka so that tourist flow is
increased at these beaches and the local businessmen are benefited.
“I will try to ban music parties at the beaches which create nuisance to the people and especially to the students during the exams,” said Sopte.
A shack owner, Pramesh Mayakar, said: “There is undue delay in giving permissions to start restaurants on government land near the beaches during tourist season. The department concerned should issue permission before the start of the season.”
Tourism Minister Azgaonkar assured to give permissions before September.
