MARGAO
Liquor and beer flowed freely on the world famous Colva beach, with domestic tourists celebrating the New Year in high ‘spirit’ right on the beach and under the nose of the law enforcing agencies.
The visitors not only threw face masks and social distancing norms to the winds, but they descended on the beach with beer cans and bottles, besides whisky bottles. Since no law enforcing agencies were around to crack a whip on the erring tourists for gulping liquor in public places, the tourists literally had a field day.
One could come across groups of visitors in huddles consuming liquor and beer without any fear of the law or the law enforcing agencies. That the tourists came with their stock of liqour only confirmed the popular belief that the arrival of the desi tourists do not help the local business in a significant manner.
Empty liqour and beer bottles, besides empty cans strewn all over the beach was a common sight on the beach, only indicating that the visitors preferred to have drinks right on the beach instead of patronizing the local restaurants.
“Empty liquor bottles abandoned on the beach is not something new. This happens every year with the domestic visitors drinking in public places in violation of the ban on drinking in public places”, a source said.
