The Goyant Kollso Naka on Friday called on three more MLAs from Salcete and Mormugao to demand an immediate stop to the ongoing track doubling works from Vasco to Cullem.
GKN delegation comprising of Co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai, Xavier Fernandes, Diana Tavares and others called on Congress Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Cortalim Independent MLA Anton Vaz.
Abhijit said the delegation will call on the remaining MLAs by early next week before they expect to call on the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Chief Secretary to stop the double tracking works.
After the delegation submitted a memorandum, Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira assured the GKN delegation that they can count on his support to demand a stoppage of the track doubling works in Goa.
“I have told the delegation that I am with them and share their anxiety. Whatever support they want, they can count on me. During my election campaign, I had told the voters of Nuvem that the Congress party would scrap the track doubling project and the linear projects if the party comes to power. Though my party is not in power, they can count on me for support,” he said.
Abhijit said the GKN is calling upon the MLAs in view of the Supreme Court judgement withdrawing permission for the Culem-Castlerock stretch of the track doubling project. “We have told the MLAs that the Chief Minister's statement that the work would continue on the Vasco-Culem stretch is in bad taste. We have started the campaign to convince the MLAs that the work is illegal,” Abhijit said while exuding confidence that the government would see reason and stop the work.
