CANACONA
About 30 cardholders were provided with employment under the MGNREGA scheme to desilt and clean the Chapoli Dam and its surroundings, generating employment for unemployed residents from Shristhal village.
The move is seen as the State government’s implementation of the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Programme towards a Swayampurna Goa.
On Thursday evening, BDO Anil Naik along with the technical support team group of RDA and WRD Canacona JE (RDA) Ulhas Gaonkar, Ajay Tubki, Tejasvi D Komarpant, conducted a special joint inspection of the work to desilt and clean the Chapoli Minor Irrigation Dam Canal and cutting of bushes around the dam area under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGS) scheme in convergence with the Water Resources Department.
As many as 30 number job cardholders/workers registered under MGNREGS from Gulem and Chapolim in Shristhal Panchayat have been engaged for this work.
“This year, the work has been entrusted to local farmer groups from tribal communities as the previous system of contract labour would not have helped locally unemployed individuals,” informed a source.
Every job cardholder will be assured of Rs 315 as daily wages work carried out by them. The total cost of this project under MGNREGS Scheme is approximately Rs 3 lakh, which is about 50% lower than the previously estimated cost.
This is a centrally funded scheme, wherein 90 per cent of funds are from the Centre and 10 per cent of funds is from the State.
