Will touts and agents loitering in the corridors of the Civic body be a thing of the past in the Margao Municipal Council?
Margao Municipal Chief Officer Amit Kadam on Friday issued a notice asking all Municipal sections to put up a notice stating the office will not entertain any touts and agents, but only the concerned applicant, or his family member or power of attorney holder for any inquiry matter.
Even as councillors raised an uproar over the return of an employee back to the taxation section a fortnight after the employee was transferred due to alleged links with the touts, the Chief Officer sought to assuage frayed tempers by saying the employee has been brought back by him only to compile data of revenue recovery, promising the employee will not have any contact with the public.
During the interaction, the Chief Officer pointed out to the City Fathers that his notice issued to the heads of various sections will put an end to the agents and touts loitering in the Civic body. “Henceforth, only the concerned application or his or her relative or the Power of attorney holder will be entertained for an inquiry over official matter. No other person, be it the agents and touts will not be entertained in the Civic body,” Kadam asserted.
He added: “No other persons, other than the applicant or the family relative or the power of attorney holder will have the right to ask for a file.”
Referring to the uproar by councillors and how the concerned have returned to the taxation section when there was a Council resolution to post the employee in other sections, the Chief Officer explained that the employee was brought back with the sole purpose of compiling data of revenue recovery. “We have a recovery officer, who needs to be provided with data of the defaulters. Hence, I deemed it proper to get the employee to carry out the job of data compilation. The employee will not come in contact with members of the public,” Kadam reassured the agitated councillors, including Councillor Sadanand Naik.
