The GLTA made the decision at its meeting at Kavale Panchayat hall.
GLTA president Dattaprasad Naik told The Goan that the meeting discussed the ongoing issue and decided to meet the new chief minister to seek help. “After the results of the assembly election, whoever be the chief minister, we will meet him and will seek State government’s intervention to file review petition,” he said.
The Supreme Court has banned all liquor shops located within 500 metres of national and state highways across the country. This order is affecting many liquor shop owners in the State.
Naik said there are about 50 wholesalers in Ponda, who were present for the meeting. “Out of our 2013 members, 700 are affected by the order and we are trying our best to save them,”
Naik said.
Meanwhile, the All Goa Bar and Restaurant Owners Association (AGBAROA) also convened a meeting in the same premises, but in a different hall and decided to meet
the elected representatives to seek help.
Speaking at the meeting, Ponda Taluka Bar and Restaurant Association president Peter Fernandes told The Goan that post-assembly election results, they will call upon all the elected
representatives and will seek government’s intervention to save the liquor traders from Goa.
“Though the order is not affecting bars and restaurants as per advocate general, we request the State government to save the wholesalers too,” Fernandes said.
“The Supreme Court order will severely affect Goa and tourism. Hence, we request the government to help us
in this matter,” Fernandes added.
