Sharad Pawar's might is set to rule the Board of Control for Cricket in India again. Only days after the demise of stalwart Jagmohan Dalmiya, the former board chief and Mumbai Cricket Association Pawar will once again helm the affairs.
"Pawar’s name was settled after a high level meeting in a plush hotel in New Delhi on Thursday night,” a top source present at the meeting informed The Goan, adding: "BCCI general secretary Anurag Thakur chaired the meeting attended by presidents of various state cricket associations."
“We have come to a consensus,” continued the source.
“There were quite a few people invited from various states. Deliberations were held on who should be the next BCC president. The meeting was fruitful because of a few important decisions were taken. The name of the next president was discussed and settled," stated GCA President Chetan Desai who took part in the parleys.
After the death of Dalmiya, reports suggested that the East Zone block was raising its stake for the president's chair. Reports emanated that former BCCI president Srinivasan could well throw his hat into the ring after testing the waters after the funeral of Dalmiya, where the whos who of Indian cricket attended.
“Srinivasan’s name was not discussed. Anurag made it clear that he had no intentions of contesting too. The choice squarely sat on Sharad Pawar, his past roles and experience being vital. It will be good for cricket,” stated the source.
