Amid a sudden surge in footfalls at specific locations, the Traffic Police issued a detailed traffic advisory for the New Year period with special emphasis on the narrow lanes of Calangute–Baga belt.

The advisory, issued by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) on Monday, comes into force on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to ease congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

To decongest internal roads in Calangute village and facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, the Traffic police have designated several routes as non-motorised and one-way.

The road from Bharat Junction to Tito’s Circle (Mambo’s Club), including the exit from Snow Park via Tito’s Baga, is declared a non-motorised zone from 3 pm to 6 am. In addition, the entry of utility vehicles such as water tankers, LPG cylinder vehicles and sewerage tankers will be restricted from 6 am to 10 am.

One-way traffic movement for all types of vehicles has been introduced on key stretches, including from St Alex Church to Calangute–Baga junction via St Anthony Chapel; from Baga–Calangute junction up to the Government Primary School; from the Government Primary School to Fat Fish junction; and from Joia de Mar Resort up to Piety Chapel, Baga.

For four-wheelers (LMVs), temporary parking has been arranged at 15 locations, including near Poriat Cross and Baga end in Calangute, the Calangute Association football ground, GTDC parking near Bandodkar statue and Calangute bus stand, areas behind Babreshwar Temple, near Bandodkar statue opposite Sagar Hotel, GTDC ground at Baga, open fields near Sahani property at Baga end, Katcha road leading to the STP plant, roads behind Big Tap Brew House restaurant, the parking lot next to Nazri Resort, behind Tito’s statue at Fiesta Restaurant, and opposite Taleshwar Temple near Baga bridge.

The entry and movement of heavy and medium tourist vehicles, including buses, minibuses and tempos, have been prohibited within Calangute from December 21, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Such vehicles have been permitted to park only at designated locations, including near Fat Fish restaurant in barren fields, near Bodke Wadakade at Porbowado, and in open spaces adjacent to Calangute Police Station.

Vasco, Colva and Canacona

In Vasco, temporary road closures, diversions and one-way traffic arrangements have been announced for the Bogmalo belt from the evening of December 31 to the early hours of January 1. Heavy and medium vehicles, including buses, will not be allowed to proceed towards Bogmalo Beach, while specific parking areas have been earmarked for cars and two-wheelers.

For Colva and Benaulim, cars will be directed to designated parking lots and football grounds, while two-wheelers will be parked near the beaches. Several internal roads will be closed or diverted, with restrictions imposed on heavy and medium vehicles entering beach areas from Colva Circle. Parking on main roads and key junctions has been strictly prohibited.

In Canacona, open spaces at Devabag and Palolem, including areas near Sai Family Restaurant, the sports complex and surrounding paddy fields, have been identified as temporary parking facilities for all types of vehicles through the Canacona Municipal Council.

The Traffic police have appealed to motorists and tourists to strictly follow the temporary traffic circulation plans, use designated parking areas, wear helmets, avoid drunken driving and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. This comes with a warning that violations will be dealt with strictly as per the law.

Traffic officials have also urged the public to cooperate with police personnel on duty to avoid congestion and ensure a smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

Police officials stated that nearly 1,000 personnel including traffic police, home guards, IRB and other units, have been posted to manage the stream of traffic, even as heavy police deployments are also visible for law and order.
