“Pollution levels taken by the GSPCB are from the ambient area, which is away from the actual coal handling area. There are many factors responsible for ambient pollution and one of them is addition of vehicle pollution, due to which sometimes pollution shows a high level,” Jayakumar told The Goan.
“That said, I am not saying that there is no pollution due to handling of coal and there is rise in pollution sometimes due to strong winds.”
“Pollution has to be controlled by coal handling companies and I am analyzing the situation. I have also directed coal handling companies to look into the matter and take corrective measures immediately,” he added.
