Traffic police told to survey Mapusa roads

Deputy Collector, Chandrakant Shetkar has directed the traffic police to conduct a survey and identify spots in order to fix appropriate traffic signboards, signals and zebra crossing in the Mapusa municipal area.

MAPUSA:
At the public grievance meeting, a number of concerned citizens raised the issue of rise in accidents and public’s scant disregard to follow traffic rules.
“Many motorists use halogen and blue lights during the night which blind the motorists travelling from the opposite side,” said Adv Mahesh Rane and urged the traffic police to act tough against such offenders.
Another concerned resident, Shyamsundar Karekar stated that motorists ride at top speed even in the municipal area, putting life of pedestrians at risk.
He further pointed out that the municipal council had recently painted zebra crossing near the Mapusa PWD office but failed to paint the stop lines, which were crucial for vehicles to stop.
Eknath Mapsekar pointed out that many youngsters were riding bikes with modified silencers which created sound pollution.
“Police do take action but many times ministers or their lackeys put pressure on the cops and ask them to release the offenders,” Mapsekar regretted.
In their defence, the traffic police said they had sent a number of reminders to MMC to fix traffic sign boards and paint zebra crossings in the municipal area.
