In a tragic incident, the headmaster of Jadeed Urdu High School at Indira Nagar in Chimbel and his mother and a daughter from Chimbel died, while three others were injured in a road accident involving a truck and car along the busy bypass road between Hubballi-Dharwad on Saturday night.
The accident occurred at 7.45 pm at Tarihal cross, about 15 kms from Hubbali.
According to the police, the family comprising six members was travelling in their Wagon R car (GA-07-E-8345) from Goa to Hubballi to attend a family wedding.
The police said the headmaster of Jadeed Urdu High School, Shakil Ahmed Durgad (46), who was driving the car, and his mother Shamshad Begum Durgad (65) died on the spot, while his daughter Subiya Durgad (16), a SSC student of People’s High School, breathed her last at the hospital.
The police added that the wife of the deceased headmaster, Naheeda (38), another daughter Zaveria (10) and son Ayan (5) have been hospitalised at a private hospital at Hubballi after sustaining injuries.
Police said the deceased hailed from Hubballi, and Shakil Ahmed Durgad was working in Goa since past 10 years, while his mother Shamshad was a retired teacher.
The last rites of the deceased were held at Hubballi on Sunday, after the bodies were handed over by the police after a post-mortem late Saturday. Hubballi North Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating the case.
Sources informed that about 300 people from Indira Nagar left for Karnataka at his native place for the funeral, while the school management and staff members have also left for Hubballi.
