Trains along the Miraj-Londa-Vasco sections of the South Western Railway (SWR) are expected to chug faster from now onwards, as authorities made productive use of the lockdown period and completed maintenance and up-gradation of tracks.
According to the SWR, works like maintaining railway lines, points, crossings, sleepers and ballast for enhancing the safety, speed and reliability had been taken-up during the lockdown period.
Maintenance and up-gradation have facilitated an increase in sectional speed from 100 Kmph to 110 Kmph and as a result, travel time is also expected to reduce as trains can chug at a faster speed.
Other important works taken up include super-elevation at curves, correction of transition length, through tamping, attending points and crossings with track machine named UNIMAT enabling this speed.
After inspection, Commissioner of Railway Safety has permitted increasing of sectional speed for 186 Km from Londa to Miraj and 19 Km between Sanvordem-Vasco of Hubballi Division.
“Increasing the speed on this section will improve mobility. SWR is on a mission mode to remove bottlenecks of permanent speed restrictions impeding the speed of trains,” SWR GM Ajay Kumar Singh said.
