Plans are also in the pipeline to upgrade bus terminals at Panaji, Mapusa, Bicholim and Margao with ultra modern state-of-the-art facilities under a PPP mode. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar during the presentation of the annual budget for the year 2017-18 said `273.08 crore would be spent on a traffic management plan for Panaji, Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Ponda with `103 crore for KTC alone and `100 crore for Konkan
Railways.
For taxi owners, understanding their plight at having to pay insurance premiums, a sum of `5 crore has been earmarked for this cause. A `3 crore allocation has also been made on subsidy for black-yellow taxis.
It has also emerged that the union government has invested a huge sum of money in infrastructural projects around the state.
The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Union Government has sanctioned projects worth approximately `11,000 crore to be paid from central funds without any contribution from the state.
The state will, however, undertake construction of district roads as well as internal roads with the aim of constructing good quality roads for each and every locality with proper design, slope and side drainages for surface water run off.
Among the bridges that will receive central government funding are Khandepar bridge costing `297 crore, four-laning of Dhavli Bypass costing `61.38 crore, missing link of NH 4A costing `184.05 crore, Margao Western Bypass costing `298.33 crore, Canacona Bypass with Talpona and Galajibag bridges costing `280.16 crore are expected to be completed by 2020.
The Ribandar bypass that is being taken up as a model corridor project costing Rs 125.55 crore is expected to be completed by December 2017.
