“The common man who goes to Hospicio does not see any major difference between the government-run hospital and private hospitals. Patients are even told to do blood tests at private laboratories. Patients have to bring their own IV fluids and arrange money for medicines,” he said, while demanding that the government step in and stem the rot.Saying that he is not at all interested in playing politics by raking up the issue of Hospicio s functioning, the Congress MLA said the government should immediately pay attention to the pathetic condition before people begin to lose trust in the hospital. “If the government is ready to accept my services, I am ready to give 24-hour attention to Hospicio in a bid to improve its functioning. Recently, there was a small fire to some electrical fittings. There were no fire extinguishers around and the people were running here and there to get water to extinguish the fire,” he said.Saying that the hospital is lacking in basic amenities to the patients, he said the government is bound to provide basic medical attention to the patients. “There is no insulin and the bed linen is not up to the mark,” he said, and warned that people will come onto the roads and teach the government a lesson if the situation does not improve immediately,” he said. “The government should act instead of attributing doctor shortage for all the ills. Why is the government not paying extra salary to doctors to get them on board,” he added.
