BELAGAVI
Vehicular movement on Belagavi-Goa road came to a grinding halt on Tuesday after a large tree fell on the road near Chikhale Cross, between Jamboti and Kankumbi, disrupting traffic and causing long queues of vehicles.
The incident, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region, blocked the entire stretch of the road, leaving motorists stranded for some time and resulting in traffic congestion.
Upon receiving information about the incident, officials and personnel from the Forest Department rushed to the spot and immediately launched operations to clear the obstruction.
Meanwhile, the police and local administration diverted vehicles through an alternative route to ease congestion. Authorities have appealed to motorists travelling towards Khanapur, Jamboti and Kankumbi to cooperate with traffic personnel and use the designated diversion until the road is fully reopened.
The incident is one of several rain-related disruptions reported across Belagavi district in recent days, as persistent monsoon showers continue to weaken roadside trees and affect transport connectivity.
