Acting on a report in The Goan highlighting the danger posed to students at the Government Primary School in Sanguem, authorities pruned a large tree which leaned dangerously towards one side of the compound wall.
The huge tree also posed danger to vehicles parked outside the compound of the school, which also houses the ADEI office.
Sources said the tree was planted many years back to add beauty to the place. Over the years, the tree grew big and began to lean towards one side of the compound wall. The branches gradually spread over the rooftop of the school building.
As the tree had grown old, there were concerns that it could get uprooted and fall on students playing in the compound during recess.
After the issue was highlighted in The Goan, authorities pruned the tree on Tuesday.
Sources said the decision to cut the tree was taken soon after the issue was highlighted in The Goan, but the action was delayed for want of labour.
