Trees uproot in Rumdamol, Benaulim; 3 houses, poles & vehicle damaged

Three houses were damaged at the Rumdamol Housing Board on Tuesday evening after a huge tree came crashing down, even as an uprooted banyan tree damaged four electric poles, besides a vehicle at Pedda-Benaulim destroying property worth over Rs five-six lakh.

At Pedda-Benaulim, the banyan tree came crashing down on overhead electric wires, as a result of which, around four poles were damaged in the incident. 
One of the damaged electric poles came down on a vehicle, damaging the four-wheeler. Electric supply to many parts of Pedda-Benaulim was disrupted following the incident. Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao along with electricity officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation as residents complained of absence of power supply.   
Executive Engineer, Santosh Lolienkar told The Goan that the incident has caused a loss of property worth Rs 3 lakh, adding that the work is underway on a war footing to restore power supply to Pedda-Benaulim.  
At the Rumdamol Housing Board, Fire officer Gill De Souza told The Goan that a huge tree came crashing down on three houses in the housing board area, destroying property worth over Rs 3 lakh.   
The three houses belonged to Jaganath, Mulla Yakub and Abdul Azim. He said the bedrooms, kitchen, besides consumer durables such as refrigerators were damaged in the incident.   
No one, however, was 
injured in the incident, De Souza added.
