Truck damages Ordhfond bridge
CANACONA: An inter-state goods lorry hit the railings and partly damaged the Portuguese-era Ordhfond bridge on river Talpona early Monday morning.
The loaded truck (RJ-19-GC-5534) was proceeding from Karwar towards Margao when it hit the railings of the bridge. About 18 poles of the railings were damaged and the truck was precariously balanced.
It is learnt that experts have been requested to remove the truck to avoid any accident and further damage to the bridge.
According to a retired headmaster Arvind Bhatikar, an attempt to blow up the Portuguese-built bridge with dynamite sticks was made post 1961. It was later repaired and reconstructed and it forms an important link of NH17 on river Talpona at Ordhfond.
