A truck driver lost his life, and multiple passengers were injured when a cargo truck collided head-on with a Karnataka-bound passenger bus on the national highway at Barkate-Mollem.
The accident stranded several passengers, who were later rescued by the Ponda fire brigade team. The injured were swiftly taken to the local Primary Health Centre for treatment.
According to Ponda police, the bus was heading from Goa to Karnataka at high speed when it collided with a cargo truck coming from the opposite direction. A car trailing the truck was also struck in the collision; however, its occupants escaped without injuries.
One passenger, a young woman, sustained serious injuries as an iron rod pierced her abdomen. Upon receiving news of the accident, three ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Ponda fire brigade staff managed to extricate the bus driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, and admitted him to a hospital.
Officers from the Collem police station promptly arrived to assist in rescue efforts. A panchnama was conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Raghoba Kamat.
