Truckers seek clarity on use of Kalay rail underpass

SANGUEM
Truck operators from Sanguem and Uguem have requested the State government to clarify if six-wheeler vehicles are permitted to use the railway underpass at Kalay.

The truck operators put forth their grievances at a meeting on Saturday, after residents of Kalay stopped trucks from using the railway underpass on Thursday.

The residents told the truck operators that the signboard displayed by railway authorities had clearly stated that the underpass is meant for a waterway and not a roadway for traffic.

As villagers refused to allow truck operators from using the railway underpass, a heated discussion took place late Thursday evening, leading to minor clashes between the two groups.

Truck operators from Uguem alleged that one of their members was assaulted and a complaint to this effect was later filed at the Curchorem Police Station.

During the meeting on Saturday, the Uguem truck operators complained that the police was yet to take action on their complaint.

The truck operators from Sanguem and Uguem have now appealed to authorities to clarify if vehicles, particularly six-wheeler vehicles, are permitted to use the railway underpass at Kalay, to avoid any confrontation between the two groups.
