AAP demands isolated safe facility for Covid +ve docs

PANAJI
The Aam Aadmi Party in Goa has denounced what it terms government insensitivity towards providing isolated safe accommodation facilities to the Covid positive doctors at Goa Medical College who are front line Corona workers.

AAP leader Valmiki Naik on Saturday demanded a deputation of separate nodal officer exclusively to monitor the arrangements made for the frontline warriors looking at the special role of these doctors.

The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) had on Friday written to the government asking for provision of an isolated accommodation while highlighting the plight of 15 doctors who have tested positive.

Valmiki said that it is unfortunate that the association of doctors had to officially write to the government for providing accommodation.

Valmiki pointed out that more than 800 doctors have lost their lives in India to Corona which they contracted while treating infected patients.

"Why is the Goa government which is headed by a doctor, can not provide essential services to doctors at GMC," asked Valmiki.

He said that the government is treating the frontline warriors with utmost disrespect and callousness since the pandemic broke out.

"Much-promised 20 per cent hike in salaries of Corona warriors has not fructified as yet," he pointed out.

He also said that the government tried to withdraw isolated accommodation provided to Covid doctors at the ESI hospital and South Goa District Hospital in November last year which it had to restore as the doctors in protest withdrew from Covid duty.
