Porvorim police have arrested two accused in connection with different rape cases.
In one case, police arrested Yogesh Mandrekar of Mapusa (31) on charges of raping a minor girl from Verem.
The victim’s mother had filed a complaint stating that the accused had raped her daughter on several occasions between September 8, 2021, and February 15.
Acting on the complaint, Porvorim police arrested Mandrekar under Section 376, Section 8(2) of the Children Act and Sections 4 and 8 of POCSO Act. He was produced before a Judicial Magistrate First class, who remanded him to 3 days in police custody.
In another rape case, police have arrested Eleuterio Cardozo (65) of Salvador do Mundo on charges of raping a 46-year-old differently-abled woman.
The victim’s sister filed a police complaint accusing Cardozo of having raped her sister on Friday evening.
Police have registered the offence against the accused under Sections 376, 354 of IPC and Section 92 of the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class and sent to one day in remand. Police are investigating both cases.
