Mapusa police arrested two individuals in separate raids on Monday evening for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling activities in public places in Bardez.
In the first incident, police conducted a raid at the municipal market in Mapusa at around 6 pm.
During the operation, the accused, identified as Mangesh Bhimrao Redekar (42), a resident of Shantinagar, Khorlim, was caught allegedly conducting a “game of chance” in an open public space.
Police seized cash amounting to Rs 550 along with gambling paraphernalia from his possession.
Redekar was later taken into custody.
In a separate operation later that night, another team from Mapusa police, led by Head Constable Keshav Babal Naik, carried out a raid near Hotel Satyaheera between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.
The accused, Pradosh Meghashyam Gadekar (41), a resident of Khorlim, Mapusa, was allegedly found engaging in similar gambling activities in a public place.
Police recovered Rs 700 in cash along with gambling materials from him. Gadekar was also arrested on the same day, and further investigation is ongoing.
Both cases have been registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. Further investigations are underway.
