When a tree came crashing down on two houses in Madhlawaddo-Morjim on May 16, little did both families realise that they would have to wait for eight long days for help to clear the uprooted tree.
The assistance finally arrived on Sunday and it was not from authorities, but from MGP leader Jeet Arolkar.
According to reports, a large mango tree got uprooted during the cyclone on May 16 and collapsed on the house of the Kudalkar family and their neighbour.
The affected families claimed they had notified the fire station, local MLA and Morjim panchayat of the incident, but lamented that none of them offered assistance to clear the uprooted tree for the next eight days.
They finally got in touch with MGP leader Jeet Arolkar on Sunday and he deployed a private crane to clear the uprooted tree.
"My father had informed authorities concerned as well the local MLA but nobody came forward to help. I thank Jeet Arolkar for doing what government was supposed to do," said Kedar Kudalkar.
Dhruv Kudalkar questioned the State government's indifferent attitude towards them and also expressed his gratitude to Arolkar for rendering assistance when they needed it the most.
The neighbour, Beblo Simoes, a taxi driver by profession, said a mango tree had fallen on his house.
“There are cracks on the walls of our house and I appeal to the government to provide financial compensation to us," said Simoes.
