Two habitual burglars arrested in Pernem

Pernem police have arrested two habitual burglars in connection with a series of burglaries in different parts of Pernem taluka since December 2024 and recovered stolen property worth around Rs 53.68 lakh.

According to Pernem police, Anil Kambli of Tuem-Pernem Goa had complained that on August 12 between 8 am and 12 noon, unknown persons had burgled his house and had stolen gold ornaments and cash of Rs 22,000, all worth about Rs 8 lakh.

On December 26, a police team led by PI Nitin Halarnkar while acting on reliable information apprehended Rohan Padwal (29) of Pernem and Jagannath Ketan Bagkar (20) of Ramnagar.

During investigation, police on December 27 recovered the stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 21.48 lakh at the instance of Padwal at the Pernem and Dhargal branches of a financial company.

Later on December, 28 police recovered a laptop worth Rs 80,000, another laptop worth Rs 40,000 and other gold/silver ornaments, all worth Rs 18 lakh, at the instance of Padwal from his place of residence at Pernem.

The next day, police recovered more stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 14.2 lakh at the instance of Padwal from the Colvale branch of a nationalised bank and from goldsmiths at Panaji and Mapusa.

The two accused were produced before the JMFC Pernem and were remanded to seven days in police custody.

Stolen property, including gold ornaments and laptops all worth about Rs 53.68 lakh, have been recovered during investigations.

Police investigations revealed that Padval and his associate, Bagkar, have committed a series of burglaries in Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuyem and Korgao area since December 2024. Different cases have been registered by police in this connection.

Police have seized a grinder cutter machine, two scooters, and three mobile phones which were used during to commit crimes.

Pernem police are investigating the case under supervision of Pernem PI Nitin Halarnkar, Pernem SDPO Salim Shaikh and the overall supervision of North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar.
