Two persons were injured in a fire that broke out at an electrical warehouse in Assagao while food was being cooked on Sunday. Chandrashekhar Chavan (35), a native of Maharashtra, and Taimir, the warehouse owner and a native of Odisha, sustained injuries during the incident.
The fire occurred between 1:00 pm and 2:20 pm in a warehouse near the Ganapati temple in Assagao. Taimir was cooking food inside the small warehouse when a spark from the gas stove ignited nearby electrical items. He quickly disconnected the gas cylinder from the stove to prevent further damage.
Taimir also owns an electrical shop located around 50 metres away from the warehouse. Chandrashekhar Chavan, who works at this shop, rushed to the scene with a fire extinguisher in an attempt to douse the flames. He was injured during the effort and was admitted to Mapusa District Hospital by ambulance. Taimir, however, refused hospital treatment.
Upon receiving information, the Fire Sub-Officer of the Mapusa Fire Station, along with personnel rushed to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire.
