The Colvale police, assisted by their counterparts in Hubballi, Karnataka successfully traced and rescued two underage girls who had fallen victim to separate kidnappings within a span of 48 hours.

According to the police, the abductors Tousif Killedar alias Munna and Naveed Ahmad Paniband enticed the girls, promising them a better life before taking them away to the neighbouring district on May 29.

Upon receiving complaints from the parents of the missing girls, the Colvale police wasted no time launching an extensive investigation and traced their location in Hubballi.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Sub Divisional Police Officer Jivba Dalvi said that they first received a complaint from the father of a 12-year old. On the same day, another lady lodged her complaint that unknown accused person/s kidnapped her 15-year old daughter. Accordingly two FIRs were registered under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act.

“Reliable inputs and technical surveillance revealed the minor girls were taken to Hubballi from Goa. A team was formed to look out for the victims there. We also sought assistance from Kasabapeth Police to search the area where both girls were held captive,” the officer said.

During the search, the girls were found in the house of one Naveed Ahmad Paniband. His interrogation led the police team to Munna, who had in fact kidnapped the girls from their respective places and kept them at his accomplice’s house. “Munna confessed he along with Paniband committed the crime,” Dalvi said.

Further investigation revealed that the accused had lured both the minor girls with hope of providing better life and induced them to get gold ornaments from their homes. “The accused persons had subsequently sold the gold ornaments to goldsmiths. All the gold was recovered from the goldsmiths in Hubballi,” the SDPO said.

The rescued girls have been handed over to their respective families and the accused are remanded to police custody.
