This is with reference to report, "Tourist taxi stolen by three on pretext of lift at Colvale - The Goan Everyday June 1, 2023." This incident where a taxi driver offered a lift to three passengers and ultimately ended up having his taxi hijacked, leaving him stranded, is very unfortunate. How does one explain this action on the part of the culprits? Is this what one expects in return for a good deed? We have been taught to help others, at least whenever and wherever possible. But this incident raises the fear of the consequences of one's good deeds. It seems like, playing the role of the 'good Samaritan' is not in fashion in today's times. Needless to say however, the culprits in the above incident ought to be apprehended and dealt with in such a way that nobody would want to commit such crimes in future. The laws in our land need to be changed to deal out punishment, equal to the crimes committed. Only then can we expect to see some semblance of sanity in society.
