Two bishops from Sri Lanka visited the island of Divar, the native village of Fr Jacome Gonsalves, who is considered the father of Sinhalese Catholic literature in Sri Lanka.

Bishop of Kandy Valence Mendis diocese along with Bishop Emeritus Vianney Fernando first visited the ancestral house of Fr Gonsalves in Divar, which presently houses the Our Lady of Divar High school.

Later, both bishops celebrated the Eucharist in the Our Lady of Piety Church, Piedade, Divar. Briefing the islanders regarding the process to canonise Fr Gonsalves, Bishop Mendis stated that the preliminary process has already started in Sri Lanka.

Fr Eremito Rebello, Fr Leslie Gomes, Freddy Ferrao, Manuel Azavedo and Anthony D'Lima were present on the occasion.

Fr Jacome Gonsalves and St Joseph Vaz were missionary priests from Goa to Sri Lanka.
