Two women killed in separate tragic road accidents

A 68-year-old Portuguese national, Santana Tecla de Almeida, was crushed under the wheels of a private bus while an elderly woman died when a truck dashed her scooter near Mall de Goa on Friday morning.

In the first accident, Santana while crossing an internal road came under the wheels of the bus at the Panaji bus stand. She had been a resident of Neura and living in South Hall, United Kingdom, before visiting Goa.

The driver, Prashant Sawant of the bus with registration number GA 03 K 0561, has been charged with rash and negligent driving. However, the Panaji police have not disclosed whether the driver has been arrested. 

The woman succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital.

The bus and the blood spilled on the road as a result of the accident was subsequently cleaned by fire and police personnel following the panchanama and other spot investigation.

In accident at Porvorim, police informed that a couple Jerome D’Souza alongwith his wife Mary D’Souza was proceeding towards Mapusa on their Activa scooter. On reaching Mall de Goa a truck dashed the scooter. The wife, aged 67 years, who was riding pillion fell and sustained grievous injuries. She was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College hospital at Bambolim, where she was declared dead on admission. Her husband Jerome has sustained hand injuries. 

Post-mortem of deceased Mary will be conducted on Saturday. 

Porvorim Police have registered the case of negligent driving against driver of the truck.
