A maroon-coloured trolley bag found abandoned on the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (MPCBR) sparked fears among locals on Wednesday morning. The bag was discovered in the Kindlebhag area, just before the Talpona bridge.
A local journalist, riding towards Maxem, noticed the unattended bag on the roadside and stopped to check for any person nearby. Finding the area isolated with no one in sight, the scribe grew suspicious and immediately alerted Canacona Police Inspector Harish Raut Desai.
PI Raut Desai instructed the journalist to monitor the scene while dispatching a police team and Fire & Emergency Services personnel. Within minutes, the beat police team arrived and carefully examined the trolley bag. After confirming it was lightweight and free of any suspicious devices, they opened it.
To everyone’s relief, the bag contained another set of old, unusable clothes. The discovery cleared any suspicion of a potential threat.
Given recent bomb hoax incidents across the country, the sight of an abandoned bag on a busy road raised concerns about public safety. The prompt police action helped alleviate the tension surrounding the situation.
