Power Minister Milind Naik has assured that the entire stretch of the Mapusa-Calangute road will be provided with underground power cabling at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
Naik was speaking to reporters when he had gone to inspect the removal of old electricity poles as part of work to widen the Mapusa-Calangute road. He was accompanied by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Verla-Canca panchayat members led by Sarpanch Milton Marques.
Lobo and the Verla-Canca panchayat members claimed that the panchayat did not have the required funds to remove the electricity poles and cables. They requested the power minister to take the initiative to remove the old electricity poles.
Naik suggested that if a road divider is constructed, it would benefit the installation of the underground cabling project.
ZP member Shawn Martins, Panch Bala Naik, Ashok Bhaidkar, former panch Sagar Lingudkar, Laxman Bicholkar and others were present during the site inspection.
