Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Thursday laid the foundation stone for underground cabling of the 11 KV power lines in Cortalim and Quelossim.

Speaking to reporters in the presence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira, Cabral said he had already spoken to the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) regarding the need for improved power supply in Goa.

Cabral said Saldanha had taken him to Quelossim, where a lot of electricity-related works were not going ahead.

"We have taken up underground cabling work of 11KV lines after all sanctions and permissions which were held up for over 6 months due to the pandemic.”

“The 36 transformers in this area will be connected through underground cabling and even the issue of street lights will be resolved in two months," said Cabral.

Cabral appealed to the people to use the 1912 toll-free number to report any issues regarding electricity in any area.

"This toll free number can be used in case of any electrical issue, including that of non-functional street lights. We have created a dashboard to observe issues reported constantly. The back-end team will then enquire why a particular area is facing a constant issue and we work out ways to resolve it.”

Cabral also said the solar subsidy was being offered to reduce the burden on electricity department, but regretted that people had not given the solar power the much-needed support.

"Only a few people have opted for solar power,” said the minister.
