VASCO:
"The MES college junction along the four-lane highway poses a great risk to the lives of students and I have taken up the issue in the past with the NHAI. I had also submitted a proposal for a traffic island with signals to decongest the junction," Saldanha told The Goan.
"NHAI officials had pointed out to me that the roads intersecting at the junction were not of the same level and suggested that a study was necessary in the matter. They had promised to resolve the issue, but did nothing despite several reminders by me," the MLA added.
Saldanha said she had also written to PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on June 5, requesting him to address the issue at the accident prone zone "by constructing a traffic island or an underpass."
"In the meantime, it would be prudent to install traffic lights at the junction to regulate the traffic, in the interest of the safety of students and public at large," stated Saldanha in her letter.
The MLA said she had also met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, seeking his intervention in the matter. "The CM has suggested various options, including an underpass for pedestrians, and informed me that the feasibility for an underpass is already being considered," said Saldanha.
Underpass, traffic signals proposed: Alina
Mindful of the difficulties and dangers to students and residents while crossing the busy MES college junction at Sancoale, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has said an underpass and traffic lights have been proposed at the site.
