Uneven road, sinking pits near South district hospital pose danger to motorists

Uneven road, sinking pits near South district hospital pose danger to motorists
Uneven surface of the road between South Goa District Hospital and Davondem is causing vehicular accidents. Captured by : Santosh Mirajkar

MARGAO
The stretch of the highway along the South Goa District Hospital to Davondem has literally turned into an accident prone zone.

Reason: The pits dug up by the agencies, probably to lay an underground sewerage line, have started sinking, taking motorists, especially two-wheelers, by surprise. In fact, a couple of road accidents have left two-wheeler riders injured, the latest incident being a young lady rider, who was left with injuries on her face.

A close look at the road restored by the agencies after the laying of the line shows that the pits have started sinking, leaving the road uneven.

That’s not all. The loose metal too around the pits, is a cause behind the road accidents on the stretch. While the overall condition of the road stretch is motorable, the pits dug up to lay the line seemed to have made the road accident prone zone.

A two-wheeler rider told The Goan that the agencies, including the PWD or sewerage department should immediately look into the matter and restore the road by removing the uneven surface.
