MARGAO
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday said the government will soon come out with a notification seeking public comments on a system seeking to introduce a uniform taxi rate, which will pave way for a free market for everybody.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Spirit of Goa festival at Colva on Friday, the Transport Minister said the government is on the job to bring a system wherein majority of the problems plaguing the taxi business will be resolved. “We will soon ask for public comments via a notification from both the stakeholders and citizens. We are trying to introduce a uniform rate. Let them choose their own App. It should be a free market for everybody,” he told the media.
Asserting that everything should be App-based, the Transport Minister said, “We have to be technology based. We should have the data as to how many taxis are operating, from which point to point they are operating, which sector is having more business.”
Saying that the taxi operators can choose their own App, he said the government is not insisting on GoaMiles for the taxi operators. “Let them bring their own App. Everything has to be technology based and I am confident that majority of the problems plaguing the State will be resolved,” he added.
