A month-old baby boy was kidnapped by an unknown woman from GMC hospital on Friday prompting police to form multiple teams to trace her.
Though information was hard to come by from the Agassaim police, who are investigating the case, social activist Rama Kankonkar informed The Goan that the mother of the baby was approached by a woman between 30-35 years and asked her to get a samosa.
“The mother handed the baby to the unknown woman and went to buy the samosa. That is when the unknown woman took advantage of the situation and made good her escape with the baby. Later, she hired a motorcycle pilot outside the GMC complex and got down at Panaji bus stand,” he added.
Meanwhile, the mother realised that the woman had kidnapped the baby and raised an alarm.
“Upon being informed of the incident, I immediately rushed to the GMC and the mother narrated the incident to us, after which the Agassaim police were informed,” Kankonkar said.
“The police arrived and on investigation traced the motorcycle pilot who informed that he had dropped the woman at the Panaji bus stand. The police then came to know that the woman went inside and later took another motorcycle pilot from the bus stand,” he added.
“The motorcycle pilot at the bus stand informed that he dropped the woman at Teen building, Porvorim, from where she boarded a bus,” said Kankonkar and added that what happened after that was not known, and that the Agassaim police are investigating the incident.
Confirming the sequence of events, a police source informed that multiple teams have been formed to trace the culprit and that the police are hopeful of cracking the case.
The police source also informed that the two motorcycle pilots were also called by the Agassaim police at the police station to get vital leads in the case.
PANAJI REPORTER ADDS: Personnel from police stations across North Goa district and also the Crime Branch have been alerted and joined the investigation of the case.
According to North Goa’s Superintendent of Police Shobit Saxena, IPS, the FIR in the case is registered at the Agassaim police station.
“We have got a few leads and we are working on it. Police in the entire North Goa district and also the Crime Branch are on the job,” Saxena said.
Footage of CCTV cameras in some locales have been scrutinized and police teams are in hot pursuit.
