PERNEM
Pernem police have arrested both the truck owner and the loader in this connection.
It may be recalled that Diptesh Sawant (20) was killed after he was crushed by a truck at Deulwada-Mandrem
on Wednesday.
According to Pernem police, during the investigation it was revealed that the truck owner, Prashant Tuekar had given his truck to loader, Mantesh Nagaraj from Karnataka, who did not have a driving license.
The police informed that Nagraj knocked down the youth and the truck owner took the blame on him to mislead
the police.
The police added that Nagraj was driving the truck in a rash and negligent manner and when he reached Mandrem, he rammed into two two-wheelers before knocking down the two-wheeler driven by Diptesh Sawant. “Nagraj didn’t apply the brake when he knocked down Diptesh, due to which the truck dragged the deceased 15 metres away from the road, and Sawant was crushed under the wheels and died on the spot,” informed the police.
Police said as soon as the mishap took place, accused Nagraj fled from the spot and called Tuekar to inform him about the incident. Tuekar, who was at his home, rushed to Pernem police station and surrendered himself after claiming that he had hit Sawant with
the truck.
Pernem PI Raul Parab discussed the case with his DySP till late Wednesday night. They conducted further investigations and realised that the loader, Nagraj, had driven the truck at the time of the fatal mishap. Pernem police arrested Nagraj and Tuekar on charges of destroying the evidence and they have been remanded to two days in police custody.
