Unseasonal rains affect paddy harvest in Canacona

Unseasonal rains affect paddy harvest in Canacona

Unseasonal rains over two nights have created additional burdens for farmers in Canacona, leaving paddy heaps and stalks drenched. This comes amid that harvest season in the taluka.

The wet stalks have been kept for drying in the sun as a result of the rains.

Such unseasonal rain creates a problem for farmers who cultivate the Khazan lands (Low-lying wetlands).

Notably, harvesting in Khola, Agonda, Poinguinim, Khotigao, Gaondongrim, parts of  Shrishthal and in fields belonging to Canacona Municipal Council is yet to be taken up and will likely begin shortly.

Farmers in some parts of the taluka still use the traditional way, using a sickle, to harvest the crop. However, there has been a growing number of farmers opting to use a mechanical harvesters.
