State government spent around Rs 229.97 crore on Laadli Laxmi during the financial year 2014-15. Director of Women and Child Development (DWCD) Deepali Naik informed that there were 22,997 beneficiaries of Laadli Laxmi scheme, each of whom received a one-time sum of Rs 1 lakh each by means of a bank fixed deposit either for the purpose of marriage after completing 18 years of age or for the purpose of business or higher education after completing 21 years of age.
Griha Aadhar scheme, on the other hand, benefited 1,21,684 women between April 2014 and April 2015. The dearness allowance scheme is aimed at reducing the burden of inflation on housewives. The benefits under this scheme were enhanced from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 in June 2014, pushing the bills for this scheme further.
In addition to these, a host of other schemes, routed through DWCD, are aimed at benefiting women. These include Sabla scheme to provide nutrition to adolescent girls,Yashaswini scheme to promote self employment among women, Mamta scheme for mothers who deliver a girl child, Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana for pregnant women older than 19 years and Integrated Child Development Services Scheme for early childhood care.
Sabla scheme was availed by 33,903 girls during the last financial year and received a grant of Rs 615 crore.

Mamta scheme
to be disbursed
in 5 phases
The major amendment to the Mamta scheme was notified in the third week of May. Director of Women and Child Development Deepali Naik stated, “Beneficiaries of the Mamta scheme will now receive Rs 25,000 in five phases of Rs 5,000 each, instead of receiving a one-time grant of Rs 5,000 after the birth of a girl child.” According to the amendment, the first amount of Rs 5,000 will be given to the parents after they apply for the benefits under this scheme within 45 days of the birth of their girl child. The second installment will be granted after the immunization of the girl child, the third and fourth after she completes Std VIII and X and the last installment after the girl completes her graduation.
