Upgraded Curchorem CHC misses deadline, now planned for Dec 30

Improvement of certain areas still incomplete

SANGUEM

The inauguration of the new building for the upgraded Curchorem Community Health Centre (CHC), which was planned to be inaugurated on December 19, is now tentatively scheduled for December 30.

Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral stated this during his visit to the upgraded Health Centre Curchorem on Wednesday, to take stock of ongoing works at the Health Centre along with the GSIDC officials.

Cabral found some works pertaining to finishing touches and improvement of certain areas still incomplete and said it would need some more time to complete the works.

“While the inauguration remains tentatively fixed for December 30, another inspection will be carried on December 27 to verify the completion of works,” informed Cabral.

Cabral made it clear that he would not, under any circumstances, want to go ahead with the inauguration work of the new building premise with incomplete works.

“The provision for oxygen connections to the beds will be completed in a day or two. Work to clean of steel parts, which were installed three years ago and have developed little rust, will also be undertaken soon,” informed Cabral.

The new building premise is set to overcome major problems faced by ailing patients from Sanguem, Quepem and Darbandora talukas who are forced to visit the South Goa District Hospital or GMC Bambolim for dialysis or other treatments.

The number of beds at the Curchorem Health Centre has also increased to 80 to facilitate admission for more patients at any given time.

Cabral said he has already advised the hospital staff to shift the equipment to the new building premise. The shifting of patients is also expected to be undertaken soon so that everything is put in place on time for the inauguration ceremony.

Cabral has been closely working to ensure that the upgraded health centre at Curchorem gets the best facilities.
