Uproar at Khareband over excavation work for Colva STP holding tank

MARGAO
Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira along with panch members and residents rushed to the banks of river Sal at Khareband on Thursday following a complaint that excavation work was underway at the site for a holding tank as part of the Colva STP sewerage discharge line.

Some locals contended that the proposed holding tank for the sewerage ought to have been put in place at a different site instead of the site of the ongoing construction work.

The sarpanch informed that the panchayat has not been informed about the excavation activity, adding that there were no senior sewerage officials at the site to answer to queries of concerns raised by the residents.

He further pointed out that no permission has been obtained from the panchayat body to carry out the construction work.

“We have also found that no board was displayed at the construction site as is mandatory for all projects undertaken by the government,” the sarpanch said.
