Davorlim village witnessed an uproar on Sunday after hill cutting was spotted on the 1.25 lakh square metre property acquired by the government for multi-purpose activities.
Led by Panch member Paresh Naik and others, the residents stopped the trucks coming out from the area with mud and called the police.
Since the people carrying out the hill cutting had no permission, the people told the police to immediately stop the activity and seize the machinery, including JCB and trucks.
Paresh told the media that the people rushed to the spot after locals found the hill cutting activity on the government-acquired property.
“This land was acquired by the government for multipurpose use, including a proposal to set up an educational hub. Some people have started the hill cutting activity on the property, which has been opposed by the local residents. A chapel is located on the hillock and we were called by the people that the hill is being cut,” he said.
Saying that the District Collector is now the owner of the property, Paresh and the residents demanded that all illegalities on the land should stop immediately.
