UTAA confident govt will provide political reservation to STs

Even as the Mission for Political Reservations by various ST organisations have set deadline to implement political reservations or face boycott of the 2024 Lok Sabah polls, the United Tribal Association Alliance headed by Chairman Prakash Velip has exuded confidence that the BJP government at the Centre and in Goa will fulfill the demands of the ST community by the 2027 Assembly election.  

He also pointed out that apart from the political reservations, the other demand of the tribal community which has remained unimplemented till date is the declaration of ST areas in Goa.  

In fact, Prakash Velip maintained that the ST organisation is confident that the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will accede the demand of the tribal community before the 2027 election.  

Addressing the media, the UTAA Chairman, who spearheaded the agitation for implementing of the 12-point charter of demands pertaining to the ST community, said the panel has been discussed with various authorities over the years for the implementing of the demand for political reservations for the ST community.  

To a question on the ongoing agitation by the Mission for Political Reservations, Velip said every organisation has the right to agitate in a democratic set up, adding that UTAA has been taking up the issue through representations and leading delegations to the concerned authorities.

Association hails 12% reservation of medical seats for STs  

MARGAO: The United Tribal Association Alliance (UTAA) has complimented the government for accepting the demand for 12 per cent reservation of post-graduation medical college in the State.  

UTAA Chairman Prakash Velip informed that the government has accepted the recommendation made by the SC/ST Commission as well as the OCB Commission for reservation of the post-graduate medical seats. 

Death anniversary commemoration 2 tribal youth on May 25  

MARGAO: The United Tribal Association Alliance will commemorate the death anniversary of the two tribal youth, who had died in the 2011 tribal agitation by unveiling their statues in their respective villages.  

A meeting will also be held at the Ravindra Bhavan on May 25 to commemorate the day. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the Tribal welfare portfolio, is expected to attend the meeting.

UTAA Chairman Prakash Velip informed that the statues of Manguesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip, who had died in the UTAA agitation at Balli, will be unveiled at their residences at Canacona and Morpilla villages respectively by Sports Minister Govind Gaude on May 24.
