PANAJI
Utpal Parrikar has blamed the "corrupt and inefficient" leadership for the current plight of Panaji due to the ongoing Smart City work and appealed to the people act when they get the opportunity to change the leaders.
On Thursday, Parrikar met the managing director and Chief Executive Officer of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, and demanded a safety audit of the ongoing projects.
Parrikar, who addressed a press conference on Thursday, made serious allegations against the MLA of Panaji and also the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate represents Panaji and Parrikar had contested against him in the 2022 elections as an Independent, finishing runner up. Monserrate's son, Rohit, is the CCP mayor and the duo are on the BoD of the IPSCDL.
The MLA is inefficient in solving the problems of the city and the manner in which the Smart City work is being executed proves it, Parrikar alleged.
He added that he contested the last assembly election because the MLA was incapable of solving the problems of Panaji.
Parrikar who met Rodrigues earlier in the day said that the bureaucrat has assured him that action will be taken. He also added that he would meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant next week in this regard.
