Residents of Valkini Colony No 2 have demanded urgent repairs by the Water Resources Department (WRD) at the Market Complex which was constructed in the village four decades ago.
Constructed at the time of displacement of the Selaulim Evacuees, the market complex has become old and is in dilapidated condition.
“The poles have corroded and the iron bars have started protruding out from the concrete structure, rendering the building unsafe for public use,” informed former panchayat member Manoj Paryekar.
“The concrete slab of the building has also developed cracks and there is every possibility that the building could collapse, if not repaired at the earliest.”
The Market Complex incidentally houses a public distribution society, an electricity department office and a library, which is frequented by the public.
Paryekar informed that despite frequent requests to authorities concerned, they have failed to get the building repaired and it is now unsafe for public use.
